A Hairy Day

It was high tide yesterday morning, so we went looking for early-returning waders in breeding colours. Unfortunately, as soon as we opened the hide flaps several bar-tailed Godwits flew off. The afternoon group did have distant views of some Knot in remnant of summer plumage. there were also Oystercatchers and Cormorants from the first hide. The morning group had a compensation in the form of a Grasshopper Warbler which reeled away for several minutes, and showed itself well to several members. There were lots of hairy caterpillars, of at least 3 different species. Just outside one hide we saw 2 Common Lizards, whilst Swallows tried to get in the hide windows, and a Little grebe displayed on the pool in front! The afternoon group watched Little & Sandwich Terns, Ringed Plovers, a Little Egret and a few Dunlin. A single Kestrel was the only raptor seen all day

Hi, just wanted to say the 6 spot burnet is a 5 spot burnet, one less spot on the bottom of the wing.
